About this ebook

Everyone wants to tear them apart. But he's not giving up without a fight.

The last thing Sara Flannigan needs is a man in her life. When she returns to her hometown, she vows to create a happy life for her son and to rebuild her life after a painful divorce. Yet when she meets her sonā€™s new doctor, she canā€™t deny the spark of attraction that heats between them.

The problem?

Heā€™s Harrison Thornton, the oldest son of the illustrious Thornton family. His family would never accept a woman like Sara, a woman who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. She tries to ignore the whispers of her past, but she soon realizes secrets can never stay hidden for long.

Especially from the man claiming her wounded heart.

Growing up in the rich and powerful Thornton family, Harrison has lived a charmed life. A renowned physician, the last thing he expects is to desire the mother of one of his patients. Sara is beautiful and intelligent, and sheā€™s completely devoted to her son, something that only deepens his attraction to her.

He doesn't want a single night of passion, though: he wants forever. Yet there are forces at work and people determined to tear them apart. Even Sara turns from him, certain she's unworthy. Harrison refuses to let Sara slip away, and soon, heā€™s fighting the greatest battle of all.

The battle to win the heart of the woman he loves.

Having grown up on the wrong side of the tracks with an alcoholic mother, Sara Flannigan exhibits all the insecurities and strengths that come from having to survive censure and coping with the challenges that come from a dysfunctional childhood. Added to that she has had to put a bad marriage behind her and deal with a seriously ill child. All of this makes her a strong woman, but her vulnerability is evident. An unfortunate incident in high school makes Sara reluctant to return to home town, but circumstances bring her back despite her misgivings. Meeting with her son's doctor was not on Sara's agenda, but Harrison Thornton doesn't seem to remember her history and he is struck by her devotion to her son and the character he sees in her. When the opportunity presents itself, Harrison asks Sara out and despite her reluctance she goes on a date with him. Unfortunately, the rumours from Sara's past once again emerge, and Harrison's manipulative mother sticks her oar into the mix, creating heartache and pain. I found this book to be well written and emotionally tense, rousing my feelings at the injustices experienced by Sara. There was humour and bug hunting James is a delightful addition to the story. After I closed the book I was still haunted by the story and the feelings that it stirred up. This is a most enjoyable read.

Basic read - too much angst. Why does the author have the male character call the female 'baby' while/after they've had sex.... There's something very strange in calling an adult woman baby.
